Default Steel Legion Project Log

Back when I first bought the bulk of my Steel Legion off Ebay, the vast majority of the army was painted in a mostly cohesive color scheme. There were a number of models that weren't painted as well, but enough of them were finished to field 1500 to 2000 points of painted models so I never really thought much about finishing the unpainted ones. To tell the truth, I really just bought the army because it was a hell of a deal and I had the extra money at the time. As the years have gone by, I've run across a couple more good deals I couldn't pass up and the army has grown a bit and the new codex release last year has seen me adding even more models to the army.

With all the mismatched purchases and other additions, the army is no longer entirely cohesive and I find myself playing with models with no paint or mismatched paint more and more frequently as time passes. To be honest, it kind of drives me nuts, so I'm working on fixing the problem. Hence the start of this Project Log.

As I always do, I'll be dragging the whole army out and taking pictures of it as it stands now, then updating the whole army pics every so often. When I do, I'll always add them to this first post to help keep things organized.

The first thing I've been working on for the IG is a new Valkyrie I got as a present from The Ice Queen. So far I have it fully assembled and primed black. I'm still researching the way I want to paint it, but the rest of the army is primarily red, black and grey so those are the colors I'm going to stick with. When I bought the army, I got it from someone who lived in Lawrence, so I was hoping I could track down the guy who painted it and ask what colors he used, but it proved to be impossible thus far so I'm going to have to give it my best guess and go from there.

Here's some pics of the Valkyrie before the real paint work starts:

Well I know what I would do if I was limiting my self to red black and grey. Grey underbelly and the rest of it painted like the A-Team van.

While this did make me laugh, I don't think that's the direction I'll be going. Though the tail extentions along the side of the hull are about the right shape to be the red "swoop" on the side of the van. Hmm...

I updated the first post to include the pictures of the entire army as it now sits. I know it's been awhile, but it's time to get to work on this. As you can see, the vast majority of the army is already painted, I just need to finish out a couple of squads of infantry and paint/repaint the rest of the vehicles to match.
